Hiking - Walking: Orwell County Park and Around Felixstowe Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: Distance Covered: 5 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Thursday 5th October – walks ***** – Orwell Country Park for
breakfast and Around Felixstowe – Sunny periods.
Discovered last night that the paddle boat, the Waverley was leaving
Ipswich at 9.30 calling at Clacton Pier, Southend Pier and passing under
Tower Bridge in London so I suggested we take breakfast to the banks of the
River orwell and watch it pass under the Orwell Bridge:) With breakfast in
the rucksack we arrived at Orwell Country Park on the outskirts of Ipswich
at 8.45 and ambled down through the lovely woods coming out by the Orwell
with the tide very low. Turning right we found a nice spot for breakfast
with good views of the bridge to our right, an old barge soon appeared and
motored past. We meet some lovely peopleout walking their dogs, the first
couple stopped for a chat and had actually been on a paddle boat day cruise
recentely and old us all about it. The another young couple came down to
see it and he had been it yesterday and their dog was really friendly
sitting by our feet:) You could smell the smoke from the boat and then at
9.50 we spotted the red and white funnels as it approached! It passed under
the Orwell Bridge, lovely it was too especially as the sun had come out!
All the passengers were standing on th decks taking in the lovely views as
it passed stoke Sailing Club and Freston tower and then disappeared toward
Levington, it was brilliant to see too, quite small too! We then continued
our walk up past thesmall holding with its horses in the field, three
Guinee foul with pigs and sheep too. Under the Orwell Bridge and up the
noisy path by the A 14 and back to the van, top to the start to the day! We
then made a quick rip to Lidl in Ipswich before retuning to Felixstowe, I
dropped Mag off to pick up the Granddaughter, the lovely Maeva while I went
home to send a few pics to the local TV weather. After Maevas lunch she sat
on the worktop while Mag made my cake as I have a big birthday tomorrow!
Then with Maeva tired we took Maeva out in the buggy, stopping at Marys,
then the town before a walk along Felixstowe prom covering another couple
of miles, maeva actually had a sleep. Mag then walked Maeva home and I
think we will doze of tonight as we are knackered and we are going to have
a busy weekend, starting tomorrow when hopefully I can get out windsurfing
before the family arrive!
